Meet The Team
Our Colleagues
“We all represent Brownfield Solutions and we are what makes the business great. Everything we do, we strive to do it to the best of our ability.”
We are always keen to hear from talented, motivated and ambitious people to join our team. If you are interested in joining Brownfield Solutions, please contact us directly.

Tony Hewitt
BSc (Hons) MSc CGeol CSci FGS
Director
Tony is committed to the sustainable development of brownfield sites and established Brownfield Solutions with James Jacob to further this aim. He provides technical support across the business and particularly enjoys a good mining problem. Outside of work, Tony has carried out a self-build conversion and several large property extensions incorporating green technology. He enjoys growing his own vegetables, photography and walking with his family and dogs, but he has to set his sights a bit lower these days with Worcestershire’s hop fields being a more common destination than the Lake District and Scotland.

James Jacob
BSc (Hons) CGeol FGS
Director
James established Brownfield Solutions with Tony Hewitt in 2005. He has a strong desire to not only meet but exceed client’s expectations. Having more than 30 years of experience in the site investigation industry he still loves the challenge of solving a site investigation with difficult ground conditions or access. When not working he enjoys spending time with his family, riding motorbikes, sailing and watching football, supporting a blue team from Manchester!

Mark Rawlings
BSc (Hons) MSc CGeol FGS
Associate
Mark is a Chartered Geologist with over 30 years experience. He has a MSc in Geotechnology and has worked for numerous large consultancies in the past, gaining a great breadth of industry experience.
He is also a car fanatic, enjoying driving to work in his soft top TVR if the weather permits!

Aaron Stokoe
BSc (Hons) CSci MIEnvSc FGS CL:AIRE QP
Associate
One of Aaron’s key aims is for BSL to provide a best-in-class service, with our team always striving to provide technical excellence and adopt industry best practice to provide effective geo-environmental and geotechnical solutions that help release much-needed development land.
This ultimately saves our clients’ money, time and resources. When at home he enjoys renovating the Edwardian period family home (although argues this is still technically work!) and in his spare time (whenever that is!) he enjoys days out with his wife and two daughters, plus watching a Marvel film or two when he gets a look-in on the TV remote!

Dan Gates
MGeoscience (Hons) FGS
principal Project Engineer
Dan aims to provide a high quality and tailored service for each project and client. Following his curiosity to understand the world around him, he enjoys the discussion of problems that naturally arise from brownfield redevelopment with colleagues, clients, and regulators. Outside of work Dan enjoys living a rural lifestyle with his Wife and Golden Retrievers.

Nicola Swallow
BSc (Hons) MSc MIEnvSc
Senior Project Engineer
Nicola enjoys the challenges which come with redeveloping brownfield sites and in understanding the relationship contaminants have with their environment. She likes using science and risk assessment tools to build arguments to de-risk contamination issues to provide a cost-saving to the client and ultimately working towards more sustainable developments.
Out of work Nicola enjoys attending the gym and playing lacrosse, as well as DIY projects around the house and binging cheesy Netflix series.

Tim Mayall
MGeol (Hons) FGS
senior Project Engineer
Tim is a geo-environmental engineer with an educational background in geology. He has a particular interest in helping our clients tackle the challenges posed by the geological setting and anthropogenic legacies of a site, an understanding of which is central to our ability to create safe and sustainable developments.

Jack Mather
BSc (Hons) FGS
senior Project Engineer
Jack provides geo-environmental and geotechnical solutions for a wide variety of clients through desk studies, site investigations, remedial strategies and verification work. Outside of work Jack is a keen motorsports enthusiast, pub quizzer, sports fan, and enjoys walking in the Lake District.

Lisa Cookson
BSc Ind (Hons) CSci MIEnvSc FGS
Senior Project Engineer
Lisa enjoys all aspects of geoscience work, but particularly enjoys helping clients to determine the geo-environmental risks to proposed developments and coming up with solutions to move projects forward. Outside of work Lisa enjoys outdoor swimming, sewing children’s clothing, baking and spending time with her family (humans and animals) in the garden and on adventures in the Lake District and North Wales.

Stephanie Dixon
Level 3 NVQ Business Administration
Administrator and operations co-ordinator

Amy Thornes
BSc (Hons) MSc FGS
Senior Project Engineer
Amy is passionate about the environment and is aiming at reducing her carbon footprint as much as possible. She enjoys both the geotechnical and environmental aspects of the job, with the aim of working towards utilising her MSc in Geotechnical Engineering, although very much enjoys the contaminated land side of the job. Her hobbies include competing her horses, walking, camping and bird watching.

Jake Wheaton
BSc (Hons) MSc FGS
Senior Project Engineer
Jake’s passion for geology and the environment led him to start a career with Brownfield Solutions in July 2016, and he hasn’t looked back since. Outside of work he enjoys DIY, listening to music, spending time with his wife and playing video games with friends when he has the time.

Loren Gakhal
BSc (Hons) FGS
Operations Manager
Loren is enthusiastic about providing solutions for challenging geo-environmental and geotechnical sites. She likes the fact that sites are always evolving which keeps her on her toes but also it allows her to learn and pass on her knowledge to clients and staff members. Outside of work, Loren loves to be in the garden listening to some music and finishing the day with a good film.

Joel Massey
BSc (Hons) Geography AMIEnvSc
Project Engineer
Joel graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with a First-Class Degree in Geography and a keen interest in contaminated land and sustainability. BSL is now facilitating his drive to make a difference and he enjoys working in mixed settings. Outside of work Joel strongly values family time and seeing his partner, going for long walks in his local countryside and drinking craft beer.
